Higher levels survive more damage or dirt, but make the code denser.

Codes are created on your device. Wi-Fi passwords and messages are never sent to us.

Tips for codes that scan

  • Use SVG for print. It stays sharp at any size.
  • Keep the white margin around the code. Scanners need it.
  • Test the code with a phone before you print or publish it.
Have a long link? Shorten it first for a simpler code.

Free QR code generator for print and screen

Create a QR code for a website, an email, a phone number, a text message, a Wi-Fi network or a social profile, then download it as a PNG or an SVG. The code is generated in your browser, so what you type, including Wi-Fi passwords, is not sent to our server. There is no sign-up and no watermark.

Six kinds of QR code

  • Website: opens a web address. Shorten long addresses first with the URL shortener for a simpler code.
  • Email: opens a new email with the address, subject and message filled in.
  • Phone: starts a call to the number.
  • SMS: opens a text message to the number, with your message ready to send.
  • Wi-Fi: joins a wireless network without typing the password. See the Wi-Fi QR code guide.
  • Social: opens a profile on Instagram, X, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube, WhatsApp, Telegram, Snapchat or GitHub.

Printable QR codes: PNG or SVG

For anything printed, download the SVG. It is a vector file, so it stays perfectly sharp at any size, from a business card to a banner, and print shops and design tools accept it. Choose a PNG for screens, slides and documents. PNGs come in 512, 1024 and 2048 pixels; pick the largest size you might need, because enlarging a small PNG blurs the edges.

Keep the default dark code on a white background unless you have a reason to change it, and leave the empty margin around the code in place. Our QR code printing guide covers size, contrast, paper and testing in detail.

Wi-Fi QR code generator

Choose Wi-Fi, enter the network name exactly as it appears on your devices, choose the security type (WPA, WPA2 and WPA3 networks use the WPA option) and enter the password. Tick the hidden-network box only if your network does not broadcast its name. Guests scan the code with their phone camera and join without typing anything.

If you change the Wi-Fi password, the old code stops working, so make a new one. For a public space, consider a separate guest network.

Popular uses

Colours and error correction

Error correction lets a code scan even when part of it is damaged or covered. Level M suits most uses. Choose Q or H for codes that may be scratched, folded or partly covered, accepting a denser code. Lower levels make a simpler code, which helps when the code is printed small.

Dark brand colours work if the contrast with the background stays strong. Light codes on dark backgrounds and pale colours are the most common reason a printed code fails to scan.

Common questions

Is the QR code generator free?
Yes. Every code type, both file formats and all sizes are free, with no sign-up and no watermark.
Do these QR codes expire?
No. The codes are static: the content is stored in the pattern itself, so a code keeps working as long as the website, number or network it contains does.
Can I change a QR code after printing it?
No. A static code cannot be changed once it is printed. If the destination might change, point the code at a page you control, or at a short link to such a page, and update the page instead.
Which file should I send to a printer?
The SVG. It scales to any size without losing sharpness. Read the QR code printing guide before you order a large print run.
Is my Wi-Fi password sent to your server?
No. Codes made on this page are generated in your browser, and what you type is not transmitted to or stored by us.
